In West Africa With a population of about 411,221,485million, there are challenges that impacted so much on agriculture such as Terrorism, Insurgency, Poliferation of small arms and light weapons, Human trafficking, Corruption, Grinding poverty, Population explosion with more virulent strains of COVID 19 all these coupled with the IMF revised projection of economic growth to 1.5% from 1.7% as earlier projected.
It’s high time the National Livestock Transformational Plan be implemented to reduce Farmers -Herders clash / tension and address higher productivities before the commencement of AFCFTA. (Africa Continental Free Trade Areas )
Animal husbandry has several value chains that can contribute effectively to GDP of Nations such as , Beef, Dairy ,Hide and Skin , Bones and Hoof ( for ceramics )Cattle dung and other Livestock. -Sheep,Poultry, Fisheries, Sea Foods , Piggery, etc. Rather than using it to forment political or religious suspicion. The value chain are :
— Beef /Meat for exportation.
— DAIRY for instance has various value chains that attracts huge commercial profit even more than beef such as
•Milk – a major driver of Tea, Coffee and other Beverages.
- Milk like Eggs are complete food.
•Yoghurt (different types : Drinking Yoghurt ,Greek Yoghurt, Fruits Yoghurt, Stirred Yoghurt, Frozen Yoghurt – a nutritionally balanced alternative to the ice cream ).
• Cheese different types, • Butter, • Sour cream etc.
— Hide and Skin for leather works -tannery.
— Bones and Hoof for ceramics industries.
— Dung used for organic manure on farms .
However, all the above value chains have no industrial relevance in West African clime as most of it are rather imported, the beef are not Processed for export purposes while the dairy industry is neither in existence .
The animal husbandry in West Africa is at cross purposes with the farming activities due to obsolete open grazing system started in the early ages far beyond the 17th century resulting in Farmers – Herders clash with resultant wanton destruction of farm – produce and unnecessary looses of human lifes.
Agroprenuer has been the largest employer of labour overtime in the developed countries of the world because they embrace morden technological innovations such as ranching systems which made it possible accessing other value chains like dairy products etc.
To produce enough dairy for the calf and commercial purposes the animal must have enough rest contrary to roaming .
Nigeria with a population of about 206million and landmass of about 98.3million hectares of fertile arable land with Cattles population of about 13million (a figure from 1984-85 estimation of FAO) is neither in the league of Top 10 of both animal (Cattle) population , Beef exporter
nor Milk exporting countries. As highlighted below.

Netherlands is a very fascinating small country (Landmass of about 42 sqkm ) with developed agricultural endowment having a population of about 17million and Cattles population of 1.6million of healthy and productive animals. The Cattle population are ranched in about 20,000 dairy farms under agro pasteurial scheme that create no problem for anyone. A country situated below sea level, one of the commonest mode of transportation is their waterways , however, the various agricultural land is put into maximum use . Between 2016- 2018 Netherlands Ranchers exported beef / meat worth €2.1 billion Euros. (9 trillion Naira )
The atypical democratic government of the current (President Buhari of Nigeria ‘s ) administration has distinguished itself by actualising the fixing of many infrastructural deficits such as good road and bridges network, railways, converting gas flaring to domestic cooking gas, ease of doing business and many more . The National Livestock Transformational Plan must be effected through appropriate education ( modern technology in ranching ) of various stakeholders in the business as this will set West Africa and indeed Nigeria on the path to self sufficiency in Food Security and remove any form of mutual suspicions be it political, religious or otherwise.
Food Processing Technology in Animal husbandry is very vital for both domestic and export purposes given the enabling atmosphere for sustainable development.
CONCLUSION
■– Advantage of modern ranching outweighs other forms of animal rearing. When animals are stationed in a ranch they are well rested to secret and produce more milk and gain more weight for beef purposes.
■– There will be a boost in Dairy Processing Technology as well as Beef and Meat Processing Technology. Itemised as follows :

■– The NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL LAND DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY.

TYPES OF COLD CHAINS
-SHOCK FREEZERS
Shock Freezers are professional equipment that controls temperature necessary for keeping products fresh for a long time.
While preserving the products the equipment makes to keep undamaged nutritional value of the products after being defrosted. The equipment is made to consists of Double Stage Semi Hermatic compressors. The Shock freezers system allows to lower the temperature very rapidly up to -180°C degrees. Freezing is provided by air coolers of it by blowing over fronted surface of the wagon. This enables to freeze down quickly in cold air flow. The room air should not exceed 35°/-40.°C. Besides, it’s proven to be a low-waste and environment friendly system.
COLDSTORAGE
This system is manufactured and installed with the entire components like it is ready to use. It could be of mobile device.
This system can be disassembled so it can be moved to other places.
Cold storage consist of the following levels and types of preserving:
-Cold-rooms 🙁 +16° / +5°C)
-Cold storage Rooms (+5°/-5°C)
-Freezing Rooms : (-18°/-23°C)
-Shock freezer :(-35°/-40°C) .
DEEPFREEZE ROOMS.
These are for preserving products such as meat, poultry etc. For a long time. They are preserved under temperatures not exceeding – 18°/-23°C. In order to isolate these rooms 150mm width sandwich panels are used.
COLD ROOMS
Cold rooms are used to keep baked goods, chocolates etc.
The cold rooms prevent bacteria from growing. Low ventilation allows workers to work without endangering their health which is very important aspect too.
