COMPULSORY NYSC SAED – (SKILL ACQUISITION ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT IN FOOD PROCESSING ) / (POST HARVEST HANDLING) IS A SINE – QUA- NON TO PRODUCTIVITY.

…….@WUFAS AGR0NET , we don’t know more than Food.

✅Earned' 'FAO' Top Fan barge
 ✅Member NAAJ, IFAJ & AFAN.

NYSC is a mandatory one year conscription of sort scheme for under 30years old graduates of tertiary institutions . It was established with military decree Nos. 24 of May 1973 to douse the post civil war tension which was to promote the 3R of Reconstruction, Reconcile and Rebuild Nigeria.
At the eve of the GOLDEN JUBILEE 50years anniversary i hereby suggest as follows. To the new DIRECTOR GENERAL.
One of the core objectives of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme is to contribute to the accelerated growth of the national economy. As it is now in 2022 , the National priority is boosting the productivity especially in the thematic areas of Nutrition, Health and Education thereby creating decent job opportunities for the youth, NYSC – SAED programme should be made ‘ COMPULSORY’, a similar national call was made to the youths in the defence sector of a Middle East country and today they’re a reference point in military prowess . From the writer’s experience the lackadaisical attitude of the youthful graduates may not match the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria – CBN’s ambition in the Youth Entrepreneurship Development Programme. (YEDP).

GENDER PARITY
The female corpers are more interested in skill acquisition than their male counterpart at about the ratio of 10:1 respectively .
Towards this, conscious effort must be put in place by the handlers of the scheme to recognise that evolution of Mankind has changed from that of the year of establishment ’73 . Our new breed of human beings born into the information age of digital and interconnectivity need newer approach .

REDEFINED AGROPRENUERIAL
In Africa, Nigeria in particular while knowledge in techniques and practices of Agronomy, Agric mechanisation, GMO, Digital Platform model technologies amongst others are increasingly improving the yield in agricultural productions the Post- Harvest handling / Food Processing of the available produce is not given the expected attention leading to losses of the produce. It’s no longer news that about 40% of the farm produce is lost annually due to various reasons principal of which are :

  • Lack of On-the Farm processing.
    — Inadequate storage facilities and infrastructural deficit.
    — Lack of adequate knowledge in Food Processing technology. etc .
    ● To promote decent jobs for the youths there must be coherence in the implementation of the youth Empowerment policies and programmes on priority areas with high potential to create decent jobs eg in the thematic areas of Health, Education and Nutrition. These will in effect raise the Human Development Index (HDI ) of which Nigeria is rated 158th out of 189 countries of the world.
The Federal Government in conjunction with the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN are having plans to create over a million direct jobs through the programme named “Youth Entrepreneurship Development Programme” (YEDP ) This is in collaboration with NYSC .
With about 170 Universities coupled with many Polytechnics graduating large numbers of unemployed graduates annually. If the YEDP succeed The current spate of hopelessness in the unemployment of the teeming youthful population will be stemmed . Data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS ) showed that national unemployment rate rose to 33.3% (Q4) 2020. The unemployed and underemployment rate gave 57.1%. While the eligible youth population was about 40 million with only 14.7 million fully employed.
At WUFAS AGR0NET, we calls for urgent attention of government at various levels, to douse the poverty rate of 68%, 88 million people (Brookings Institution) in a population of 211million currently highest in the world making Nigeria capital of poverty in the entire world with extremely poor people living below $1.90 a day. The number of extreme poverty people has increased to 6 people per minute while in four months 1.1million people are slipping into extreme poverty.
This unacceptable scenario is an indictment on failure of various authorities and particularly in the family unit.
The resultant abysmally low rating of HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX (HDI) call for genuine concern . HDI is a direct reflection on Education, Health and Nutrition status of the citizens. S/W of Nigeria’s HDI was 38% as at October 2018.imagine what will be recorded in more disadvantaged zones of the country.
Experiencing the depths of our poverty stricken situation should lead to life shaping decisions of developing our human resources, as was the case in China between 1990 – 2013 . China was involved in massive Construction to pull the poverty ravaged country out of extreme poverty. India with population of 1.324 billion exited her citizens from extreme poverty as well recently, the multiplier effect of even a few people in productivity of foods into value chains could have a positive reveberationnal effect on the society and the nation at large.
However, the Federal government of Nigeria maintain a pro – civil servant (2 .4million only out of 211 miiion) inclination by meeting up with the recurrent expenditure of 3.494tillion out of the total budget of 9.12trillion Naira for 2018 in (Nov.2018) the debt – revenue ratio (federal govt) is 68% this is as a result of heavy borrowings in the last 3 years of this administration. The above social and economic indices is to inform you reading this piece that Nigeria may not exit the poverty range soon enough if the Human Capital Development of the human resources in various sectors are ignored.
Prime of these are the agroprenuerial / agroprocessing.in the six geo- political zone of Nigeria.
At various times non- governmental organizations such as Bill Gates foundation, Tony Elumelu foundation, Feeding the Future (US govt) and others had lent and given their voices to Human Capital Development of human resources.

WHY HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT IN SUSTAINABLE FOOD SECURITY AND VALUE CHAIN DEVELOPMENT ?
A country with quality (empowered) population is poised to record higher developmental achievements in global ratings especially in the UN 2030 agenda on sustainable Food Security and Value Chain Development.
WUFAS AGR0Net a Human Capital Development Consultant in Food Processing Technology are into Capacity Building disseminating basic Food Processing principles and Operations to Startups and Entrepreneurs .training them to imbibe technical details that will ensure global competitiveness. Through Entrepreneurial/Empowerment Demonstrative Seminars in Ethics of Food Processing Technology eg ,water treatment, Q/C concept, preservation , packaging etc and Production Technology in all classes of food. eg Foods, Beverage, Dairy and Vegetables. Presently Nigeria is import dependent on all classes of foods.eg Rice, sweetener, Baking flour, Sugar, Dairy, Beverages etc.
The attitude of various intervention agencies in HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT at Local , State, and Federal governments institutions leave much to be desired. In most case, trainees are left to foot their bills rather than encouraging and motivating them to learn.
In order that the Federal effort in Human Capital Development is not tharwted by few bureaucrats, extensive audits of Human Capital Development Consultants should be carried out to ascertain and ensure adequate Technological Transfer by passionate HCD Consultants. Such that assigned budgetary approval for the purpose is well managed.
In Nigeria of today , Human Capital Development . must be taken to the youths by motivating them even by gratifications rather than asking them to pay.
At WUFAS AGR0Net, we see the inadequacies in the UN 2030 agenda in achieving Sustainable Food Security And Value chain development in Nigeria and seeing it differently, we believe it’s a hurdle that is surmountable as problems are best solved from outside the box it has put us in and thinking creatively, we automatically see novel and unusual ways over, under, around and through the hurdles of inadequacies hence our audacious stance and believe – resolving that with our previous experiences in most blue chips food industries, new possibilities must be exploited and even create new realities, one of which is the Human Capital Development Consultancy we are into and with the collaboration of more formidable bodies within and outside Nigeria we can leap forward, we have already started as evidenced in our various interventions as seen below.
