CREATING AWARENESS FOR HEAVY RAINFALL- SEASON AND MEASURES AGAINST THE CONSEQUENCES IN NIGERIA.

GOVERNMENT’S INVOLVEMENT
The Technical Committee of experts set up by the Federal Government which included the 22 members  have asserted heavy rainfall and inclement weather conditions. They include : National Emergency Management Authority ( NEMA ) , Nig. Meteorological Agency (NMA ), Nat’l Space Research and Development Agency, Nat’l Inland Waterways Authority, Office of the Surveyor -General of the Federation , The National Orientation Agency amongst others reeled out effects and measures of what to expect in the coming raining season.

PREDICTABLE CONSEQUENCES
● SEVERE flooding would likely wash away farm land and this may lead to destruction of livestock , causing severe hunger in the land. (Food security).
● The associated severe weather might worsen malaria, cholera and other water-diseases.-(Health care).
● Day time TEMPERATURE is likely to be above normal all over the country.
● FLASH floods might result in the hinterland of the coastal areas between March and July.
● The above average rainfall may result in OVER-FLOODING and improper termination of drainages causing damages to critical infrastructure that may lead to inaccessibility of communities.
●Damages of WATER INFRASTRUCTURE, reduction in the water quality and nutrients.
● On TRANSPORTATION, heavy rains may result in flooding , causing damages to roads and bridges that could cut off communities, high temperatures will affect motor vehicles tyres at hot temperatures.
Air transportation is at the risk of convective rains with associated strong winds, aquaplaning and high temperatures thereby increasing the prospect of wind shear and air turbulence resulting in disruptions, skidding of planes off runways leading to flight delays and cancellations. While rail track bucking , flooding as well as complete washout may result.
● In the TELECOMMUNICATIONS sector, the electromagnetic waves propagation would be affected while the signal quality may deteriorate as well as distortion of cell phone reception. Mast and Antenna are susceptible to storms, may collapse causing economic losses

SOLUTIONS
The right time to release and apply the ecological funds for the three tiers of government is now for :
▪ The FG must improve and strengthen diplomatic relations/ties with neighbouring countries like Niger, Chad and Cameron with respect to release of water from their dams.
▪ Efficient sensitisation of communities around the coastal areas.
▪ Continuous De-silting of water channels and removal of huge amount of silt deposited in water channels after rainfall.
▪ Halting construction in in water plains and across water channels.
▪ Reservation of upland areas for relocation (IDP) of flood affected communities. With plans to secure house hold properties.
▪ Harvesting of farm produce should be done in August .
▪ Keep a family disaster kit ( an assemblage of basic essentials eg food, water, medications, blankets , torchlight etc. ).
▪ Avoid wading or swimming in flood waters due to submerged logs, stones and presence of dangerous reptiles .

TYPES OF COLD CHAINS

-SHOCK FREEZERS
Shock Freezers are professional equipment that controls temperature necessary for keeping products fresh for a long time.
While preserving the products the equipment makes to keep undamaged nutritional value of the products after being defrosted. The equipment is made to consists of Double Stage Semi Hermatic compressors. The Shock freezers system allows to lower the temperature very rapidly up to -180°C degrees. Freezing is provided by air coolers of it by blowing over fronted surface of the wagon. This enables to freeze down quickly in cold air flow. The room air should not exceed 35°/-40.°C. Besides, it’s proven to be a low-waste and environment friendly system.

COLDSTORAGE
This system is manufactured and installed with the entire components like it is ready to use. It could be of mobile device.
This system can be disassembled so it can be moved to other places.
Cold storage consist of the following levels and types of preserving:
-Cold-rooms 🙁 +16° / +5°C)
-Cold storage Rooms (+5°/-5°C)
-Freezing Rooms : (-18°/-23°C)
-Shock freezer :(-35°/-40°C) .

DEEPFREEZE ROOMS.
These are for preserving products such as meat, poultry etc. For a long time. They are preserved under temperatures not exceeding – 18°/-23°C. In order to isolate these rooms 150mm width sandwich panels are used.

COLD ROOMS
Cold rooms are used to keep baked goods, chocolates etc.
The cold rooms prevent bacteria from growing. Low ventilation allows workers to work without endangering their health which is very important aspect too.
