OPINION: ENGAGING THE NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES ON “CLIMATE SMART AGRICULTURE ” THROUGH REDUCED CARBON FOOTPRINT.
■ NNPC should look inwards to give out RESEARCH grants to leading ranked Universities in achieving net zero carbon emissions target through carbon avoidant and removal.
■ The issues as regards “carbon tax” is welcoming and will mitigate gas flaring ,it should be extended to include industrial generators and vehicles on fossil fuels.

TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN NIGERIA.
Nigeria with 221 Universities. Is still on course with the stereotyped form of education , while expecting investors from outside the country with their franchised patented technologies from their well funded Universities to do everything for her.
To date, not much is heard from Nigeria Nat’l Petroleum Company ‘s (NNPC) “Facility For Oil Sector Transformation” (FOSTER) on any perceived tangible agenda on Strategic plan with deadline to stop Carbon dioxide (Co2) emissions come 2050 , rather, it’s being majorly preoccupied with issues of fuel subsidy deregulation.
INDIA OIL CORPORATION amongst many other OIL majors are assiduously working towards CLEAN ENERGY.
■ At WufasAgronet, we opined that NNPC should giveout Research and Development grants to the first 10 ranked Universities on this projects and many more.
● The increase adoption of climate -smart agriculture intervention can lead to increase in agricultural production of good foods that comes with improved nutrients, reduced price hikes boosting Food security and incomes.
INTERLINK OF FOOD SECURITY AND CLIMATE CHANGE .
Net zero carbon emissions could be achieved through carbon avoidant and removal in the following areas:
• Embracing solar energy is a critical component in the energy mix. The benefits include removal of greenhouse gas emissions, increasing desirable options to fossil fuels with increased energy security making it attractive options to transit to – for reliable and sustainable energy development.
— Transiting to renewable energy is gaining more popularity by the day with improved technology such as innovation in Solar PHOTOVOLTAIC (PV) system, which is currently meeting energy demands of many African countries such as Ghana, Rwanda, South Africa, Morocco Kenya etc. Expanding energy access to remote settlement not covered by national power grid.
• REFORESTATION
Increasing the density of “Green Cover” which have been depleted to less than 20% from >40% in 1960s due to urban development which has turned the areas into industrial conrete jungle .
The cheapest means of carbon removal is by tree planting in millions , promoting healthy photosynthesis ( removal of carbon dioxide by plant for thier foods manufacturing and release of oxygen for human respiratory activities ).
•TRANSPORTATION – Eradication of fossil fuelled transportation to Electric Vehicles for BRT , Railways , waterways systems etc.
• ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION
Waste management in controlled dumpsites and increased awareness of disadvantages in Open defecation and recycling of polystyrene and other highly carbonised crude oil products.
• HOUSEHOLD ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAMME (CLEANCOOKING).
Avoidance of wood , fossil fuels for cooking, Water filtration amongst others.
Energy efficiency is very critical.
• WATER purification .
All the above will create carbon credit.
• CATTLE RANCHING: production of methane gas from cattles excrement must be avoided, it increases Co2 emissions.
Modern ranching takes care of the pollution.
■ Increase, in clean energy access will influence jobs creation , economic development, increased productivity and revenue generation that would support the country’s broader economic development especially as it concerns Climate Smart Agriculture while healthy and nutritious farm produce will ensue.
●The country’s administration will gain more if the carbon tax on gas flaring is further intensify to include domestic usage of fossil fuels in generators and other carbonised applications.

-Antioxidants
Cashews are rich in carotenoids and Polyphenols antioxidants that helps reduce inflammation and offers protection from disease.
-Low Sugar
Cashews are low in sugar which helps reduce the risk for serious diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes, Lung disease, Heart disease, Liver disease, fatty buildup and enhances weight loss.
-Rich in Fibers
Fibers are very important to normalize bowel movement, also increases weight and size of stool thereby improving transit.
-Plant Protein
Cashews contain phytonutrients and quicker muscle repair property. Plant proteins have been linked to a lower risk of stroke heart disease
-Essential micro-nutrients
Cashew kernels are a good source of copper, magnesium and Manganese (nutrients for energy production, brain health, immunity and bone health
).
-Reduce cholesterol
Too much cholesterol in the body cause plaque buildup in arteries which can lead to atherosclerosis (cardiovascular disease).

TYPES OF COLD CHAINS
-SHOCK FREEZERS
Shock Freezers are professional equipment that controls temperature necessary for keeping products fresh for a long time.
While preserving the products the equipment makes to keep undamaged nutritional value of the products after being defrosted. The equipment is made to consists of Double Stage Semi Hermatic compressors. The Shock freezers system allows to lower the temperature very rapidly up to -180°C degrees. Freezing is provided by air coolers of it by blowing over fronted surface of the wagon. This enables to freeze down quickly in cold air flow. The room air should not exceed 35°/-40.°C. Besides, it’s proven to be a low-waste and environment friendly system.
COLDSTORAGE
This system is manufactured and installed with the entire components like it is ready to use. It could be of mobile device.
This system can be disassembled so it can be moved to other places.
Cold storage consist of the following levels and types of preserving:
-Cold-rooms 🙁 +16° / +5°C)
-Cold storage Rooms (+5°/-5°C)
-Freezing Rooms : (-18°/-23°C)
-Shock freezer :(-35°/-40°C) .
DEEPFREEZE ROOMS.
These are for preserving products such as meat, poultry etc. For a long time. They are preserved under temperatures not exceeding – 18°/-23°C. In order to isolate these rooms 150mm width sandwich panels are used.
COLD ROOMS
Cold rooms are used to keep baked goods, chocolates etc.
The cold rooms prevent bacteria from growing. Low ventilation allows workers to work without endangering their health which is very important aspect too.
