TAPPING INTO THE RENEWABLE ENERGY OF “SOLAR” FOR ENHANCED FOOD SECURITY.
■ There is the need for the establishment of industrial GREEN BELT for renewable energy to enhance food processing in each zone of the federation.
■ The Federal Government’s Economic Sustainable Plan once included plans to provide 5million homes with cleaner energy through decentralised Solar power programmes of which estimated 25million would have access to Solar power by 2023 creating about 250,000 jobs.

THE EFFICACY OF ELECTRIC POWER GENERATION OF RENEWABLE SOURCES.
DILEMMA OF POWER GENERATION IN NIGERIA.
Currently Nigeria tops 20 countries with largest access deficit of 76% global population living without electricity or 570million of people in 2020 ie. Nigeria 92million, DRC 72million and Ethiopia 56million . The Nigeria’s electricity suffered 7 National grid collapse within 2022 availing only 2,168MW for the entire population of 211million.
— Egypt raised electricity power generation from 24,000MW to 50,000MW to become Africa’s largest power producer within a decade whilst Nigeria in two decades about $20billion was spent to raise power from 3,000MW to 12,000MW but can transmit only 4000MW.
POWER GENERATION IN NIGERIA.
Electricity Power Generation in Nigeria consists of various stakeholders in the value chain. Viz:
— The Power Generation Companies. (GENCO)
— THE Transmission Company (TCN)
— Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Co. ( NBET )
— THE Distribution Company (DISCO)
— Niger Delta Power Holding Co (NDPAC)
— NNPC. etc.
There are about 25 active GENCOs on the grid generating about 3700MW but the supply have been very erratic and enormous black out due to constant collapse of power grid while the TCN manages the power grids, and the DISCOs sell power to consumers.
GAS POWERED ELECTRICITY GENERATION.
Gas usage is about 80% for power generation capacity in Nigeria that has the largest gas infrastructural reserve in Africa but despite all efforts on gas infrastructural development and maintenance it remains insufficient while infrastructural sabotage is compounding the situation.
World Bank data ( 2019 ) on countries with most electricity outages accounted for 191days of 365 days in a year with estimated cost of about $28billion annually in Nigeria.
Low pressure of the gas left several gas turbines with insufficient gas supply leading to plant shutdown and subsequent blackout. Unlike gas turbine plant, gas engines are more flexible to function at low gas pressure events ie (low gas production risk ) an advantage in gas supply disruption and systemic power shortages.
CLEAN ENERGY SOURCES – Hydropower electricity, Solar energy, Windmills etc.
HYDRO POWER — There are about 3 notable Hydro electricity dams in Nigeria the Kanji, Jebba and Shiroro while Mambila Hydro dam project had been on the drawing board of many governments since the advent of the current democratic dispensation. Mainstream Energy Solution Ltd. are the operators of the Hydropower dams of Kanji and Jebba having combined capacity of 1002MW 520mw each ,Shiroro is recently given out to Mainstream to manage it has capacity of 700mw.
SOLAR POWER SYSTEM — Nigeria is located in the tropics with abundant sunshine of about 8hrs daily ie ; about 2,920hrs annually . Tapping into the renewable energy source of solar is overdue in Nigeria.
World Bank estimated that over 80 million people who currently lack electricity will benefit with right investment in solar power which prove to be the best alternative to generating set. Although , Solar appliances are relatively costlier than generating set , the cost however pales off when compared with buying a new Gen. set , fueling and servicing.
The awareness of Solar power technology is on the increase domestically and commercially.
■At WufasAgronet, In the Federal Government’s ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY PLAN we advocate for the establishment of INDUSTRIAL GREEN BELT zones of renewable energy vis: Hydro power, Solar, Windmills etc for 24/7 power generation to drive agropreneurail activities such as Irrigation, On-the farm food processing, Cooling ,Drying, Distillation amongst others.

-Antioxidants
Cashews are rich in carotenoids and Polyphenols antioxidants that helps reduce inflammation and offers protection from disease.
-Low Sugar
Cashews are low in sugar which helps reduce the risk for serious diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes, Lung disease, Heart disease, Liver disease, fatty buildup and enhances weight loss.
-Rich in Fibers
Fibers are very important to normalize bowel movement, also increases weight and size of stool thereby improving transit.
-Plant Protein
Cashews contain phytonutrients and quicker muscle repair property. Plant proteins have been linked to a lower risk of stroke heart disease
-Essential micro-nutrients
Cashew kernels are a good source of copper, magnesium and Manganese (nutrients for energy production, brain health, immunity and bone health
).
-Reduce cholesterol
Too much cholesterol in the body cause plaque buildup in arteries which can lead to atherosclerosis (cardiovascular disease).

TYPES OF COLD CHAINS
-SHOCK FREEZERS
Shock Freezers are professional equipment that controls temperature necessary for keeping products fresh for a long time.
While preserving the products the equipment makes to keep undamaged nutritional value of the products after being defrosted. The equipment is made to consists of Double Stage Semi Hermatic compressors. The Shock freezers system allows to lower the temperature very rapidly up to -180°C degrees. Freezing is provided by air coolers of it by blowing over fronted surface of the wagon. This enables to freeze down quickly in cold air flow. The room air should not exceed 35°/-40.°C. Besides, it’s proven to be a low-waste and environment friendly system.
COLDSTORAGE
This system is manufactured and installed with the entire components like it is ready to use. It could be of mobile device.
This system can be disassembled so it can be moved to other places.
Cold storage consist of the following levels and types of preserving:
-Cold-rooms 🙁 +16° / +5°C)
-Cold storage Rooms (+5°/-5°C)
-Freezing Rooms : (-18°/-23°C)
-Shock freezer :(-35°/-40°C) .
DEEPFREEZE ROOMS.
These are for preserving products such as meat, poultry etc. For a long time. They are preserved under temperatures not exceeding – 18°/-23°C. In order to isolate these rooms 150mm width sandwich panels are used.
COLD ROOMS
Cold rooms are used to keep baked goods, chocolates etc.
The cold rooms prevent bacteria from growing. Low ventilation allows workers to work without endangering their health which is very important aspect too.
