SDG 14, 2030 demands that maritime Countries and Nations should find ways and means to conserve the Sustainable use of the ocean, sea and the maritime.
The Ocean are governed by the UN laws of Sea Convention , the treaty divide the sea into two ie the 12 nautical miles zones which is basically the costal waters or territorial waters and the Contiguous zones which is 24nautical miles from the baseline, beyond this is the high sea. It is sad to note that the dead zones are on the increase (low level of Oxygen ) to support marine life at an alarming rate. Achieving the 10 target indicated viz: Sustainable fishing, Protection of maritime pollution etc. The International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
has significant role to play on actualization of SDG 14. There must be concerted efforts in place to curb waste pollution in the bodies of waters eg. organic( plastic ) and inorganic matters , recycling of waste is less than 1% especially plastic generation in the urban metropolis .
There must be effective enforcement in place to curb plastic waste pollution. The pollution in the bodies of water is alarming and unacceptable.
The management and enforcement of regulations of fishing practice is the responsibility of coastal agencies and authorities. The inherent nature of Illegal,Unregulated and Unreported fishing makes it impossible to accurately quantify the full global economic impacts of these illegal activities which violate both national and international fishing regulations also with global concern that threatens Ocean ecosystems and sustainable fishing loosing diverse coastal species of fish.
THREAT TO SUSTAINABILITY
The sustainability of the ocean is under severe threat as seen today with pollutants, Ocean warming, Acidification, Illegal unreported and unauthorised fishing , unsustainable and destructive fishing practices , pollution from Shipbase and Landbase ,others are collision between marine life and ship, Extraction of Oil and Gas, Minerals mining leading to acidification and reduction of oxygen level couple with under the Sea volcanic eruption causing TSUNAMI.
Ship wreck – the concerned authority must collaborate with Naval forces and deploy to all identified wreck site using high resolution magnetometers to validate wreck removal .
— The Lake Chad basin is being endangered by desertification coupled with the insurgency by terrorists this has reduced fishing activities to the bearest minimum.
Efforts at recharging the lake must be intensified.
In Nigeria, there are about 264 dams many of which were built for multipurpose usages coupled with the extensive coastal brakish waters. However, all are grossly underutilised . Nigeria import about 900,000mt of fish ( this figure is being bandied since 1986 ) while the demand is about 1.5mmt. With the current population explosion it should be more.
— In Nigeria, Cat fish farming is on the increase but faced with the existential threats occasioned by the torrential rains associated with abnormal flooding that has wrecked havoc on investment in aquatic livelihood leading to humongous losses.Flooding occasioned by annual rainfall from overflow of rivers. – The Nigeria Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Should create a buffer for resuscitation of most collapse industry.

TYPES OF COLD CHAINS
-SHOCK FREEZERS
Shock Freezers are professional equipment that controls temperature necessary for keeping products fresh for a long time.
While preserving the products the equipment makes to keep undamaged nutritional value of the products after being defrosted. The equipment is made to consists of Double Stage Semi Hermatic compressors. The Shock freezers system allows to lower the temperature very rapidly up to -180°C degrees. Freezing is provided by air coolers of it by blowing over fronted surface of the wagon. This enables to freeze down quickly in cold air flow. The room air should not exceed 35°/-40.°C. Besides, it’s proven to be a low-waste and environment friendly system.
COLDSTORAGE
This system is manufactured and installed with the entire components like it is ready to use. It could be of mobile device.
This system can be disassembled so it can be moved to other places.
Cold storage consist of the following levels and types of preserving:
-Cold-rooms 🙁 +16° / +5°C)
-Cold storage Rooms (+5°/-5°C)
-Freezing Rooms : (-18°/-23°C)
-Shock freezer :(-35°/-40°C) .
DEEPFREEZE ROOMS.
These are for preserving products such as meat, poultry etc. For a long time. They are preserved under temperatures not exceeding – 18°/-23°C. In order to isolate these rooms 150mm width sandwich panels are used.
COLD ROOMS
Cold rooms are used to keep baked goods, chocolates etc.
The cold rooms prevent bacteria from growing. Low ventilation allows workers to work without endangering their health which is very important aspect too.
