SPECIAL AGRO-INDUSTRIAL PROCESSING ZONES (SAPZ) & VALUE CHAIN DEVELOPMENT IN VARIOUS ECOLOGICAL ZONES OF NIGERIA.
■ Unveiling the value Chains Development of abundant Nigeria’s food crops and livestock.
■ ECOLOGICAL zones
■ The Triple ‘A’
■ Various Value chains.

The Federal government through the Vice President launched the above programme in Abuja(October ’22 ) in conjunction with other co – financing stakeholders in Food Security such as : African Development Bank AFDB – Dr. Akinwumi Adesina and Int’l Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Ms Katherine Meighan , in mobilising the private sector in the enabled government programme with principal aim of developing Value Chains for selected crops and livestock in the participating states.
THE ECOLOGICAL
ZONES with Food Crops of comparative
advantage.

✅ BRINGING TO FORE THE IMPORTANCE OF TRIPLE ‘A’ IN AGRO- PRODUCTION/PROCESSING.
With the abundance of the agricultural production in Nigeria’s various ecological zones, the albatross is the enormous wastages (about 40% ) due to various reasons mentioned below :
• Lack of On- the farm processing,
• Inadequate Storage facilities,
• Shortfall in infrastructural development eg good road network and bridges,
•Lack of functional electricity and principally
• Inadequate knowledge in Food processing technology on the various food crops and livestock.
— The TRIPPLE ‘A’ are ● AVAILABILITY. ACCEPTABILITY & AFFORDABILITY of good quality food for the citizens in Nigeria and globally too.
■ AVAILABILITY — This involves aggressive – commercial production of ORGANIC food crops with massive agricultural mechanisation density of which FAO’s standard is 1.5hp/ htre or ( 300 tractors per 1000sqkm) . However, Nigeria with least mechanised farming density of 0.27hp/ hectare is ranked 132 of 188 nations globally.
Most mechanised equipment deployable are : Tractors, Power tillers , Harvesters, Threshers, Crushers, Choppers, Haybalers, Milkers etc. Mechanisation encourages economy of scale in food production.
■ ACCEPTABILITY— This brings to the fore the relevance of knowledge in “Food Processing Technology” ln Food processing, there are Ethics of Manufacturing Practices or Standard Operational procedures that will birth good quality foods, making it acceptable and accessible . The International Best Practices that will result in Global Competitiveness must be adopted. These Ethics are
•Water treatment (poor quality water will only produce poor quality food ),
• Food Quality Control- ensuring quality standards,
•Food packaging ensuring that the elements of food degradation such as moisture, oxygen, sunlight UV, bacteria, fungi etc are excluded,
• Preservation methods ,for extended shelve life are Temperature control– ( Heat treatment, Cold chain, Chemical treatment , Vaccum treatment, Inert gases treatment etc ,
• Food management system / Food Safety ( food law, food hygiene, personal hygiene, cleaning, house keeping etc. )
•Risk Assessment — HACCP.
• Down Time Control. Etc, etc.
■ AFFORDABILITY — Economy of scale production of food when supply is more than demand making the prices affordable for the citizens .
VALUE – CHAIN DEVELOPMENT.
This means development of derivatives from food crops eg:
•Onions(fresh , dried, oils and powered )
• Tomatoes ( purees, juice, paste, whole skinned etc )
• Maize( food, starch , flour, Brewing adjunct for malted barley, livestock-poultry feed, etc )
• Sorghum( food, Brewing adjunct for malted barley, livestock , glucose extract
—- Concentration = Mass per Volume —
• Cashew ( Cashew nuts, Industrial raw materials for : chemicals, paints, varnishes, insecticide, fungicifes , oils etc. )
• Soybeans ( food, edible oil, fibre, auto fuel etc. )
• Fruits ( fresh fruits eating, juice concentrate, chips, dried etc )
•Vegetables (fresh , dried, powdered etc )
• Tubers eg Ginger(fresh eating, powdered, chips, etc )
• Fisheries (Fresh, Smoked, fried, fillets, canned etc.)
Oil palm (palm oil, bleached etc )
• Cassava (Garri, Starch, Flour, HQCF, Ethanol, Sweetener, livestock feed, etc )
• Poultry (meat, protein mix, feathers etc.)
• Seasame ( oil- food, margarine, pharmaceutical. Industrial uses, paste etc )
• Cocoa (powder, chocolate, beverage etc).
•Rice ( food,flour, husk for livestock, etc )
•Groundnut ( oil, foodnuts,husk for livestock etc )
• Beef and Dairy ( beef production, Dairy-milk, butter, sour cream, different types of yoghurt etc ).
• Neem seeds – Bitter flavours.
With proper implementation of the above, the food crisis will be solved and massive jobs provisions ensured.

-Antioxidants
Cashews are rich in carotenoids and Polyphenols antioxidants that helps reduce inflammation and offers protection from disease.
-Low Sugar
Cashews are low in sugar which helps reduce the risk for serious diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes, Lung disease, Heart disease, Liver disease, fatty buildup and enhances weight loss.
-Rich in Fibers
Fibers are very important to normalize bowel movement, also increases weight and size of stool thereby improving transit.
-Plant Protein
Cashews contain phytonutrients and quicker muscle repair property. Plant proteins have been linked to a lower risk of stroke heart disease
-Essential micro-nutrients
Cashew kernels are a good source of copper, magnesium and Manganese (nutrients for energy production, brain health, immunity and bone health
).

TYPES OF COLD CHAINS
-SHOCK FREEZERS
Shock Freezers are professional equipment that controls temperature necessary for keeping products fresh for a long time.
While preserving the products the equipment makes to keep undamaged nutritional value of the products after being defrosted. The equipment is made to consists of Double Stage Semi Hermatic compressors. The Shock freezers system allows to lower the temperature very rapidly up to -180°C degrees. Freezing is provided by air coolers of it by blowing over fronted surface of the wagon. This enables to freeze down quickly in cold air flow. The room air should not exceed 35°/-40.°C. Besides, it’s proven to be a low-waste and environment friendly system.
COLDSTORAGE
This system is manufactured and installed with the entire components like it is ready to use. It could be of mobile device.
This system can be disassembled so it can be moved to other places.
Cold storage consist of the following levels and types of preserving:
-Cold-rooms 🙁 +16° / +5°C)
-Cold storage Rooms (+5°/-5°C)
-Freezing Rooms : (-18°/-23°C)
-Shock freezer :(-35°/-40°C) .
DEEPFREEZE ROOMS.
These are for preserving products such as meat, poultry etc. For a long time. They are preserved under temperatures not exceeding – 18°/-23°C. In order to isolate these rooms 150mm width sandwich panels are used.
COLD ROOMS
Cold rooms are used to keep baked goods, chocolates etc.
The cold rooms prevent bacteria from growing. Low ventilation allows workers to work without endangering their health which is very important aspect too.
