REVIVAL OF MORIBUND AGROPROCESSING INDUSTRIES THROUGH REDEFINED AGROPENUERAIL EMPOWERMENT AND NATIONAL DIGITAL PLATFORM IN NIGERIA FROM THE OPTICS OF AFCFTA AND THE WORLD COMMODITY MARKET.
……..@WUFAS AGRONET, We don’t know more than Food
Earner — “FAO” TOP FAN Barge
AGRO PROCESSING — The post- harvest handling (Processing ) of the agricultural sector had suffered setback (causing the nation to be import dependent on essential Foodstuffs ) due to lack of impetus and direction which BUHARI’S administration is currently putting in place with the ” PEDI “
Launching Nigeria into the industrial realm and relevance at this stage of her National Development is sacrosanct and in tune with the Federal Government’s “Presidential Economic Diversification Initiatives” (PEDI ), with the aim of supporting the revival of moribund industries especially in Agroprocessing amongst others by facilitating new investment, reducing regulatory bottlenecks and enabling access to credit . This repackaging will enable MSMSE (the main target and the engine room of the nation’s economy ) bankable , creating avenues for financial institutions to provide access to credit through market linkages programmes thereby improving the quality of their Packaging, Capacity building and instituting the National Digital platform, reforming Nigeria’s economy from commerce based to industrial thereby developing funding portfolio that will discourage trading and encourage MSMSE. (Micro, Small and Medium Scale ENTERPRISE ) in manufacturing.
It would be recalled that the Asian Tigers are stronger today because their economic policies are in line with Manufacturing, Financial services and Agriculture.
Hitherto, channeling funds to industrialists at MSMSE level had suffered setback due to banks unfavorable protocols and demands. .Towards this , a well tailored industrial policies and a supporting industrial climate can go a long way to leverage and strengthen the MSMSE .
While perfecting the financial implications of the PEDI, another important aspect is the Capacity building in Human resources coupled with National Digital platform Technology in agriculture especially having in mind the teeming youthful population and the unemployed graduates who will form the bastion of hope for the envisaged industrial development.
With a population of about 211million and the ever spiralling inflation presently at about 19 % the need to redefine our Agroprenuerial Empowerment which will in turn activate the Nation’s productivity which now stand at about 7% to about 10% before the advent of the AFCFTA. (Africa Continental Free Trade Areas )
■ Take for instance PALM OIL is presently $1,070 per metric tonne at international commodity market while crude oil is about $70 per barrel (28 June 2021) . 1mt equal 7.33 barrels. While equivalent price of 1 Mt of Crude oil is approximately $520. In Nigeria South East and South South is home of Palm Oil even before Indonesia and Malaysia took over. A State Governor has almost 100% of Palm oil production and sales in his state. Same goes for products such as Soya beans in the Middle belt zone , Brazil made a whooping $32bn in 2018 from Soya beans. Ground nut Oil thrived very well in Kano, Tomatoes production had it’s home in Plateau state, Cocoa industries once flourished in South West. Ekiti State has a huge potential in rice production “Igbemo Rice ” had been in existence before Kebbi State Rice, the huge potential had been dormant untill recently , one only hope that the recent wakeup call in Igbemo rice production is not the usual/ mere political hype also Ogun state is home to OFADA Rice (a local delicacy ) Record showed that only 57% of the 6.7mmt rice consumed annually are locally produced. Rice producing states could latch in here it’s interesting to note that Rice importation gulped about 3trn Naira (Three trillion Naira) in 2018. Same goes for Cotton ( textile ) , Hide and Skin Tannery and lots more. One would then ask why various States government still depend on the Centre with – cap in hand – at Abuja.
COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGE
The Nigeria State should leverage it’s comparative advantages in food production to feed its citizens and comeup with solution to current challenges in global community.
■ Towards this, a redefined Agroprenuerial Empowerment that will launch Nigeria’s products into Global Competitiveness and International Best Practices must be in place as the role of education cannot be over emphasised.
This involves the detailing of Ethics of Food Processing Technology such as : Water treatment, Packaging, Preservation, Quality control concept, Food mgt System, Production Planning / Programming model, Risk Assessment and management, Food Fortification etc .While the major challenges of agriculture include Climate change and population explosion these provides bases for earlier technological innovations. National digital platform creates access to stakeholders in agricultural value chain providing off takers that will buy off products.
Netherlands with landmass of about 45 sqkm and population of about 18million was the 2nd largest exporter of Agricultural produce in the world in 2020. She has one of the most developed Digital platform model in Agriculture with adequate R&D innovations that reduces water comsption by 90%, Incecticde by 99% and coming up with increase yield of about 500%. With Cattles population of about 1.8m healthy and productive animals ( Nigeria has about 13million weak and unproductive cows ) housed in over 18000 Dairy farms under unique agro pasteurial scheme . Of the over 200,000 engaged in agricultural sector only about 44000 Dutch citizens are engaged in the Dairy sector. Netherlands is in the league of Dairy / Beef producing and exporting countries of the world.
• It is the believe at WUFAS AGR0NET that Nigerians will reinforce the unlimited possibilities inherent in our collective resolve to advance our course in the revival of the moribund industries.
However, the operators of ” PEDI” will have to come to terms with common characteristics and problems which led to the cause of the industrial moribund in the first instance. They are as follows :
-■- Shortage of infrastructural facilities, electricity power supply, Cooling , Dilapidated roads and bridges network , absence of railway etc.
–■- Entrepreneurial / Empowerment education in General Manufacturing Practices ( ETHICS ) in Food Processing that will latch Nigeria into Global Competitiveness and International Best Practices. .
— Incessant delays at the Ports caused by Custom’s non digital clearance, traffic gridlock at the Port, Insecurity, Shipping high charges cost amongst others.
— Technical problems – Inadequacies of technology restraining to single product not being able to exploit value chain development.
— Lack of adequate data and information for decision making hence, making planning difficult.
— Calibre of entrepreneurs / manager – Usually low ,incompetent and incompatible with field of operation leading to hoarding of information.
— Lack of bargaining strength.
— Lack of executive capacity in relation to personnel problems, Social work habit,Tardiness, supervision and motivation.
— Marketing problems – uncoordinated quality control not meeting with delivery schedules, payment terms? Price setting etc.
— Lack of specialisation in management ( division of labour ) one person doing 3 or 4 specialised job.
— Poor remuneration – Inadequate motivation.
— The need for R&D into product development to be able to counter competition from non AFCFTA members.
— Security, Security and Security as enshrined in section 14 ( 2) b of the Constitution will ensure the dreams.
■ CONCLUSION .

Shock Freezers are professional equipment that controls temperature necessary for keeping products fresh for a long time.
While preserving the products the equipment makes to keep undamaged nutritional value of the products after being defrosted. The equipment is made to consists of Double Stage Semi Hermatic compressors. The Shock freezers system allows to lower the temperature very rapidly up to -180°C degrees. Freezing is provided by air coolers of it by blowing over fronted surface of the wagon. This enables to freeze down quickly in cold air flow. The room air should not exceed 35°/-40.°C. Besides, it’s proven to be a low-waste and environment friendly system.
COLDSTORAGE
This system is manufactured and installed with the entire components like it is ready to use. It could be of mobile device.
This system can be disassembled so it can be moved to other places.
Cold storage consist of the following levels and types of preserving:
-Cold-rooms 🙁 +16° / +5°C)
-Cold storage Rooms (+5°/-5°C)
-Freezing Rooms : (-18°/-23°C)
-Shock freezer :(-35°/-40°C) .
DEEPFREEZE ROOMS.
These are for preserving products such as meat, poultry etc. For a long time. They are preserved under temperatures not exceeding – 18°/-23°C. In order to isolate these rooms 150mm width sandwich panels are used.
